Latest Coronavirus Update

from Outings Committee   posted 4th Nov

If, like your Outings Committee, you are developing withdrawal symptoms from a lack of outings to attend,  don’t worry.

We have our plans  for the New Year when, perhaps, we can start travelling together again. You will see here & in the latest Newsletter the kind of things we have in mind and we hope you approve.

Be assured that as soon as we can meet together with no virus risk on a coach or  boat or plane you will be receiving booking forms to complete.
We have looked at the possibility of  limited number outings but the coach hire cost is prohibitive.

We also looked at a possible gathering in a local open air restaurant but the rule of six stymied that idea.
And now we can’t have any groups gathering at all.

So, please be patient.

Things will get easier and before too long we’ll be able to enjoy (if thats the word),
one of Mike Sedman’s horror quizzes en route to an interesting destination.

is back on hold again

The proposed trip to Glyndebourne will definitely not take place - there are issues with coach travel and the hotel which will not now be resolved.

The rule of six has stopped any possible brunch visits to the Benson Waterside as an outing.

The boat trip with Salters, which would have received considerable support is now no longer viable.

were arranged for members usually every month. They are organised at cost price, with transport, tickets & gratuities included. Ideas for future outings are welcomed from members.

A short four or five day holiday is included in the itinerary every year & previous destinations have included Northern Ireland, Tuscany, Madrid, Slovenia. This year was to be to Northumbria in June, now postponed to 2021.

Last year Oct 2019 to Sicily

Six days of the History of Western Sicily & Palermo. Highlights of the trip included the medieval town of Erice, the Norman Cathedral at Monreale, a tour of Palermo & a boat trip to the island of Mozia. An excellent time had by all.

In Sept 2018 to Romania

To Bucharest, a city of extremes, then to Transylvania in the Carpathians, an area of natural beauty & home to wonderful scenery, Dracula’s Castle (quite ‘sort of interesting’) and Peles Castle, a truly wonderful 19th century chateau filled with highly decorated rooms, set in the most picturesque setting.  A most enjoyable holiday with a happy group of members.

Our 2017 holiday to Lake Bled, Slovenia & Koblenz in the Rhineland

A group of 38 of our members had a memorable six day holiday based at Lake Bled.  There were many highlights including a visit to Postojna, one of the world’s largest cave systems & a wonderful day at Piran, a medieval town with a Venetian influence, a typical Mediterranean look &, on the day itself, a very Mediterranean climate.

Many more memorable holidays in the years before....
